Created in 2017 to address the growing demand for a modern approach to recruitment, Kin is an Aotearoa New Zealand B Corp doing recruitment differently by putting people in the centre of the hiring process.
Kin offers transparent recruitment solutions to their clients, and an authentic human connection with job seekers. Their fulfilment comes from finding people a place to belong and finding clients a suitable employee that helps lift their business. They strive to balance profit with purpose by providing genuine life balance for their team, and giving back to their charity partners B1G1 Business for Good and Big Buddy.
To celebrate Kin’s recent B Corp certification, we sat down with Managing Director, Wendy Alexander to find out more about how they’re reimagining the recruitment process.

Why did Kin want to certify as a B Corp?
Purpose has always underpinned everything we do at Kin: joining the B Corp community seemed like a natural step for us.
What makes Kin unique as a business?
As a quiet disruptor, Kin has come to the market with a time and materials approach to recruitment.
Our biggest driver is the feeling you get when you work with us, whether you’re a client or a job seeker. We are thoroughly human in everything we do.
Our other key difference is that we deliver recruitment outcomes for around half the cost of a traditional recruitment agency. We invest heavily in our team, allowing a tonne of flexibility in how they work, and we balance profit with purpose by supporting our charity partners through our everyday actions.

B Corps want to help transform our economy into one that is inclusive, sustainable, and regenerative. What business practice do you want to see become the norm?
I love partnering with B1G1, Business for Good. This global giving platform allows us to link simple business milestones to our monthly giving. Best of all, our team chooses the causes that mean the most to them so each month they can see the impact we’re making to those who need it most.

Was there a B Corp that inspired you to certify, or one that you look to for inspiration?
Ethique springs instantly to mind, so inspiring. I’m also inspired by Redvespa and Collective Intelligence, two companies in our close orbit who are doing so many good things.
Do you have any tips for aspiring B Corps about the certification process?
Hunker down, it’s not a simple process! Help is out there if you need it – just ask, it’ll change your whole view of the process.
