Why did you want to become a Certified B Corporation?
We want to lead and encourage a positive shift within our industry. The certification offers a strong framework for how we can progress our own practices and remain accountable to our community. Additionally, it is a great benchmark that we can clearly communicate with our customers and fellow industry players, truly educating and spreading a standard for what good business looks like across the board. Being a B Corp also provides access to handy resources and aids in attracting aligned talent.
What makes your B Corp unique as a business? Tell us some of the areas where you have the biggest impact, or some of the little changes you’ve made to make a difference.
We’re re-imagining the toy industry. At Olli Ella we’re about reverting back to timeless pieces and minimising reliance on plastics. We create our toys with the planet in mind and we ensure a rich thread of diversity and inclusion, from gender to race is woven throughout our designs, so all kids can be inspired to play and grow.
Walking the talk, we need to invest if we want to improve our environmental impacts in our operating offices. We believe education is paramount and positive progress is innate in our business. That’s why we are educating from the inside out. In order to ensure our EMS is effectively applied, we have educated existing employees to become ‘Environmental Heroes’. Environmental Heroes are paid extra in addition to their day to day role, recognising and supporting their responsibility, to ensure our environmental improvement practices are applied and improved upon internally. Inspiring and elevating our staff as we grow.
Do you have any tips for aspiring B Corps about the certification process?
Keep going! It’s a long process (it took us close to 2 years to get there). It’s worth it – use the certification as an opportunity to really excavate your business practices and improve upon them. Use the process to really uncover how much further you can take your good efforts, whilst equally celebrating what you have achieved already. Grab a team and participate in B Corp workshops!
A big congratulations to Olli Ella for achieving B Corp certification!
