Education used to be reserved for the classroom, but those days are long gone.
Online offerings from universities are becoming the new normal, even as we emerge from lockdown. For busy professionals, upskilling or exploring a new field is now accessible at their own pace and in their own space.
Flexible learning is not only helping students; it’s helping institutions like Torrens University Australia serve more people in their communities. By breaking down traditional barriers to education like geography or time commitments, Torrens University Australia can offer its online courses to people who would lack access otherwise.
“We believe in the power of education to transform lives,” the university proudly states. Accommodating a variety of lifestyles allows them to maximise that impact.
Torrens University Australia’s On-Demand Short Courses are offered for those who are looking to squeeze learning in between appointments or on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Without face-to-face learning, students can take their time with difficult concepts or speed through ones that come easily. Self-guided courses ensure no one gets left behind – even when life gets in the way.
Torrens University Australia and its sister institution Media Design School are part of Laureate International Universities global network of education institutions. They became Certified B Corporations (B Corps) in 2015, along with all other institutions in Laureate’s global network. As part of their commitment to continuous improvement, Torrens and MDS were recertified in 2017.
For Torrens University Australia and Media Design School, being a B Corp is more than just a certification. “It is a way of doing business in a manner that helps us continue to do better for those who matter most: our students, staff, and the communities we serve.”
To give back to the B Corp community, Torrens University Australia and the Media Design School are partnering with B Lab Australia and New Zealand to provide an exclusive catalogue of free, On-Demand Short Courses. As a B Lab partner, now is your chance to take advantage of more time at home and develop your skills with the complimentary short courses, from social media marketing to emotional intelligence. In under two hours, you can learn from industry leaders and receive a certificate of completion for professional development.
“Community and collaboration is now more critical than ever,” says Bryce Ives, VP Communications and Public Affairs at Torrens University Australia. “As businesses have been severely impacted by COVID-19, we wanted to give the people of Australia and New Zealand a chance to upskill, upgrade and in some cases prepare for re-entry into work.”
As part of their efforts to support the broader community Torrens has made all our On-Demand Short Courses available to select industry partners for free, and in June they opened up 14 of these courses to be free for everybody. To date, 10,828 courses have been completed with 8,703 unique users – a total of $1,505,092 worth of learning given away for free since April.
