Developed by hairdressers for hairdressers and preferred by salon artists with style-conscious clients, Hairjamm is a family-owned and operated company that has been making a positive impact on the haircare industry since April 2000.
From being the first haircare company in Australia to achieve a carbon neutral status in 2018 to utilising environmentally sustainable materials to creating a more circular supply chain wherever possible, this Brisbane-based company is setting the bar high.
Their commitment to minimising the impact of haircare on the environment led Hairjamm to achieve B Corp Certification in August 2021. Since then, the team at Hairjamm has continued to make great strides, and we sat down with them to learn more about the steps they’re taking to make a positive impact in the haircare industry.

It’s great to have a haircare B Corp in the community. Can you tell us a bit about what Hairjamm does?
We’re a proudly Australian-made and owned haircare company, and we distribute our own brands — Pure, Juuce and Fix — which are salon-exclusive and sold to thousands of salons throughout Australia and abroad. We’re also the exclusive Australian distributor of Italian haircare brand and Certified B Corporation, Davines. Our focus is on supplying quality hair products and services to salon professionals.

Why did you want to certify as a B Corp?
At Hairjamm, we have always had a strong focus on products inspired by nature. We’re fortunate to be surrounded by inspiration in Australia, from the bush to the beach. We started with products that were formulated to be good for the body, using natural ingredients like the Australian botanical blend in Juuce, and certified organic complex in Pure. Then, inspired by modern problems in nature, like the devastation of native bees in Australia, we started to focus on our environmental story.
Our Pure Haircare brand has an ongoing Save the Bees campaign that has distributed enough ‘seed bombs’ to plant over 700,000 native flowers since 2017. Additionally, we’ve been carbon neutral since 2018 and have used land waste plastic (LWP) to make our bottles since 2019. With these efforts, our environmental story had really taken shape.
We wanted to do even more and better, so we looked to B Corp Certification as the most legitimate, recognised environmental and social assessment available.

What makes your B Corp unique as a business? Tell us some of the areas where you have the biggest impact, or some of the little changes you’ve made to make a difference.
As a company, we have embraced our responsibility for change by always trying to stay ahead of the trend when it comes to making socially and environmentally conscious decisions. We would rather be making change as early adopters before social pressure forces the industry to change.
We worked hard to become the first haircare company in Australia to achieve carbon neutral status in 2018 through behavioural and operational changes, and investing in Australian bio-diversity projects.
We were also the first haircare brand in Australia to produce our bottles from 100% recycled (Australian land waste) plastic.

B Corps want to help transform our economy to one that is inclusive, sustainable, and regenerative. What business practice do you want to see become the norm?
At Hairjamm, we’re passionate about utilising environmentally sustainable materials to create a more circular supply chain wherever possible. We believe this should be something that many businesses invest more in. Our brands have seen sustainable growth and profits, all while moving to more environmentally conscious materials, like our 100% recycled plastic bottles. These materials are becoming more readily available from manufacturers, and we are now seeing consumers choosing to spend their money more consciously.

Do you have any tips for aspiring B Corps about the certification process?
The certification process isn’t meant to be finished quickly, so take your time and do it right.
Use this unique process as an opportunity to analyse and improve your business for the benefit of everyone it affects.
Remember that B Corp Certification is a journey and not a destination — it’s always good to aim for continuous improvement.
