B Lab AANZ launches the B Council

Last week, we were excited to bring the inaugural B Council together for the first time.

What is the B Council?

Last year, B Lab Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand (AANZ) launched a new governance model to bring a broader, more diverse set of voices into the direction-setting of our movement at the local level. It includes the B Council, which serves to formalise the voice of B Corps in this model. Made up of representatives from Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand’s B Corp community, alongside B Lab AANZ’s CEO, Impact & Engagement Manager, and board, its purpose is to bring the B Corp community perspective into the mix and provide valuable insights from those on the other side of certification.

B Lab AANZ’s governance model

As a new body, the B Council first needs to be designed. This important work is the central brief for our inaugural B Council, who are tasked with building the framework for future B Councils, from terms of engagement to ways of working. Over the course of this year, the B Council will do this with their own experiences working at B Corps, as well as with input from the wider B Corp community.

Introducing the inaugural B Council

We are pleased to introduce the first B Council for 2022. Selected from expressions of interest received in late 2021, this group represents new and old B Corps, as well as large and small business, from across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. We’re grateful for their time, energy and commitment to the movement in stepping up to the B Council for 2022. The best place to find the B Council is on the online community for Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. We will continue sharing more updates through the course of the year ahead.
